You studied at the Bible School in Vajta. What was this time like?
Overall it was really great. Looking back now these years seem like the best years of my life so far. Of course there were moments when I almost started to pack up and go home (especially during the first semester :)), but these were the seasons when God removed things from my heart that didn’t belong there. At the same time the happiest moments of my life occured during the Bible School years.
Maybe I could summarize the whole time by stating that God made me into a completely new person. He showed me that He loves me just as I am, and that it is worth following Him with all of my heart. When I moved there, my goal was to build a career (I wanted to be a pilot), have an average life and nothing else. But God showed me that my life is much more valuable in His hands if I allow Him to take me wherever He wants. By the time the school ended all I desired was to serve Him. That is why it is an undescribable blessing for me that presently I get to serve Him full time!
What advice would you give to those that are thinking about going to the Bible School? You work in our coffee shop on weekdays. What is the secret to making a good coffee?
This is quite complicated. On one hand it is very important to have the right tools and ingredients (even a good espresso machine won’t produce a good drink out of bad coffee). On the other hand it is really important to pay attention while making the coffee and constantly trying to improve the details. For example it is not hard to steam the milk for a cappuccino, but it might take years to make perfect creamy and tasty milk foam. I still have a lot to learn and practice, but I am trying to do it better and better each day!
You are one of the key members in our sound team. What do you like about this ministry?
I know it sounds a little strange after the Coffee shop and the Bible school, but I am / was basically technically oriented. I used to major in computer science in high school and I have already mentioned that I wanted to become a pilot, so I have always been interested in “gismos” J. On the other hand I really like music, so the mix of the two areas is ideal for me. God has greatly used the different concerts and worship times to accomplish a mighty work in me, so it is a great blessing for me to be able to help the worship team in some way. This ministry is very exciting, always full of different adventures. For example, it was amazing to see how God stopped some huge thunderstorms during outdoor concerts or outreaches, when not only the event but also the expensive equipment almost got flooded.
What were the most valuable lessons you’ve learnt walking with God?
Perhaps one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learnt was that there is no situation God cannot take us through. A few years ago I had a hard summer job that taxed me both physically and spiritually, but I had to work in order to be able to go to Vajta. Each day I was at the end of myself and I was constantly aware of the fact that I would be able to finish the day only by God’s help. Each night I got home, I was just lying on my bed realizing how hopeless the day would have had been if God hadn’t given me strength. By the end of the summer I had earned exactly as much money as I needed for the Bible school – and I was still alive! J This was a huge lesson for me. I saw that there is nothing I cannot go through with God and that no matter what will happen, God will be with me and will take care of me. It is really not worth worrying because we can trust Him instead!
Another valuable lesson was to learn that it is not my knowledge that matters, but that I am available and willing to step out when I see a need. We might feel imperfect for a task, but God can use us much more if we dare to go for it than if we were perfect but without the right heart or without the courage to step out. God is looking for people who dare to “step out of the boat”…
