You’re a musician – a pianist, a worship leader, a choir director. What is it that you love the most about music?
Has there been a specific event, time or person in your life, that has really shaped your Christian walk and the direction God has led you on?
When my dad worked in Botswana my brothers and I would visit him during school vacations. On one of these visits I met the president of Baylor University which is in Texas, and, as a result, ended up leaving South Africa to go to the U.S. for my university education. This, of course, affected my life's direction.
As you’ve journeyed along the path God's had for you, what have been some of the most valuable things you’ve learnt.
Relax in the plans God has for you – even if others think you are a little too casual and not ‘pro-active’ enough in taking action to affect a certain course. Waiting is not always bad! The Holy Spirit loves to gently lead as you learn to hear and trust – and act on – that ‘inner voice’.
For you, what are some of the most rewarding things about being in and serving in the church.
I enjoy people (most of the time!), and I really enjoy seeing people grow in grace and love. Generally the more rewarding things for me are a by-product of what I actually do. For example: it is very exciting to me to see how the Lord uses the choir to change people’s lives – and I don’t just mean the audiences. I mean the choir members themselves. I have seen wonderful “life adjustments” in people as they are molded by the Holy Spirit as they learn to work together as a community of believers. Because, after all, it’s by our love that they will know we are His disciples.
