Welcome to Calvary Chapel Budapest - we are glad you have found us! If you are new to our church, hopefully the following questions and answers will help you get to know us better and help you when you can visit us.

I am new
What time are your services?

Sunday morning – 8am, 10am and 12pm.
Sunday night – 7pm
Wednesday evening – 5pm
Monday evening – 6pm

What should I do if I have children?

We warmly welcome all families. On Sunday mornings, there are Sunday School classes for children aged 4 to 12 during both the 8am and 10am services. During the 12pm service we have childcare.

Our English-speaking class is held during the 10am service on Sunday.

Childcare is also available on Wednesdays during the 5pm service.

If you are not sure where the Sunday School rooms are, please just ask one of the greeters at the front door or an usher (they will be wearing nametags) and they will be happy to direct you.

What should I do if I have a baby or toddler?

Our nursery is located in the lower side-room. Our Baby ministry team is there ready to look after your toddlers (ages 0–4) during the 8am and 10am Sunday services.

For nursing Moms, we have a special room for you, located at the back of the sanctuary.  There is a TV in the room so you are able to watch the service from there.

What are your services like?

Our aim is to center our services on Jesus.  We begin each service with a time of worship (around 30 minutes). Then we have our Bible Study (for around 50 minutes). On Sunday mornings we are currently studying through the book of Acts, on Wednesdays we go through the book of Ecclesiastes and on Mondays we study Paul’s epistle to the Ephesians (only in Hungarian).

We also encourage you to stay and fellowship after the service. Enjoy a coffee and pastry from our coffee shop!

Are your services in Hungarian and in English?

We are a Hungarian church, although we do have an international flavor. Our Sunday morning services and Wednesday evening services are in both Hungarian and in English.

The Sunday evening service is in Hungarian, although English translation is available through headsets. The Monday night service is in Hungarian only.

Our worship songs are mainly in Hungarian.

How do you take communion?

We take communion every 2nd Sunday morning. The bread and juice are available at the front of the sanctuary, and an invitation is given to everyone who is a believer in Jesus Christ to come and partake during the worship time.

Is there anything special I need to know before coming to church?

No, just come! Some helpful information though... if you are coming to the 10am Sunday service it’s best if you arrive 5 to 10 minutes early to ensure you have a seat. And the bathrooms are located in the basement – you will find the staircase to the basement in the cloakroom. If you are lost, please just ask someone.

Who are the leaders of the church?

Phil Metzger is the senior pastor of our church and there is a group of 8 elders who support Phil in leading the church. The elders meet once a month. After each service, some of the elders are always at the front of the sanctuary by the pulpit, waiting for you if you would like prayer or counsel, or just to say hi.

The church staff are responsible for the daily and practical running of the church.

How can I get connected and meet new people?

As we are a big church, we encourage everyone to be part of a smaller fellowship group.

In particular, we recommend you join a Home Fellowship. Home Fellowships typically meet every week. There you will be able to develop closer friendships and enjoy worshipping and praying in a close-knit group.

We have Home Fellowships throughout the city and hope to start more in the future. For the current list of Home Fellowships please go to our Home Fellowship page . If you would like us to help connect you to a HF leader, please write to hazicsoportok@golgota.hu

We also organize various fellowship events during the year, and these are good ways to get to know people. These include excursions and Dinner for 8. In August we also have our church summer conferences in Vajta.

I am interested in serving in the church... what should I do?

Firstly, we ask you to pray. Pray that God would lead you to where He would like you to serve in the church.

Also spend time browsing our webpage. We have a lot of information on all the different ministries in the church. On each ministry page you will find the details of the people to contact.

Please note that some ministries may require that you have attended the church for a certain period of time before joining the ministry (such as our Sunday School ministry).

I am interested in getting baptized... when can I do this?

We have 3 baptisms each year. On one Sunday in February we bring a pool into the church and have a baptism during the morning services. We have two other baptisms at our summer conferences in Vajta in August.

We believe that a person is not saved through baptism, but that baptism is a public testimony of a one’s faith. God calls all followers of Him to be baptized.

Any other questions?

If yes, please write to us at budapest@golgota.hu and we'd be happy to write back with an answer.

Also we have an Information Table in the church foyer. The people there are ready to help you with any questions you have. They also have a special welcome pack to welcome you to our church.
